Presenting photography and performance, Nothando Chiwanga’s work examines and reflects on economic issues, social norms and power dynamics in society. She looks at money and the tswanda (reed basket) as symbolic of the women's everyday ways of gathering to earn. Money being a source of power. Tswanda reflects food security.
Her works illustrate a journey across generations, from self-stigma to self-acceptance. It is also a reflection of the artist, which other women can identify with. Her presented series “Ndiwe ani?" (“Who are you?") considers the relationship between the artist and other women in society, as a result of their shared experiences. It is also challenging societal and economic ideals of Feminine Power in society.
