Lack of transport infrastructure is hindering the development of agriculture in Sub-Saharan Africa - more than half of the untapped potential for cultivation in the region is located approximately 6 hours away from a major market. Over 70 percent of the rural population depends on agriculture for their livelihoods, and regional economic growth has been constrained by poor performance in the agriculture sector. 

However, the burden of inaccessibility and reduced mobility is borne disproportionately by women. They have some of the most diverse transit needs, given that they spend a higher proportion of their time on unpaid reproductive and domestic labour whilst also balancing income-generating tasks within a given day. We believe women are at the bottom of the pyramid yet represent the most productive and important segment of the market.
